I’ve spent a lot of my career in corporate life, a lot of it involving writing. I have an MA in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Technical Communication from Sheffield Hallam University.
I worked at IBM as a software engineer and then Accenture and BAE Systems as a management consultant. I worked for a security startup during the dotcom era of the early 2000’s, and a boutique business transformation consultancy. I moved from consultancy into a corporate role, as a VP for a global pre-sales and proposals team in the secure identity sector. As a consultant I’ve worked with major businesses all around the world, and a significant stint working with government and other public sector clients.
I’ve written hundreds of reports, presentations and proposals on a huge variety of subjects, including my technical specialisms of solution architecture, security and digital transformation. I have run courses in persuasive writing and trained around 100 people, and I’ve given presentations to a number of conferences in enterprise architecture, data, and identity solutions in the UK and overseas. I’ve been a company spokesperson on identity, privacy and security topics, and interviewed by the BBC, Financial Times and Computer Weekly.
I now run a consultancy business, and started Storyboardr to turn my decades of experience into helpful, practical and accessible training resources for business people at any stage of their career. I chose the name Storyboardr because so much of what we write comes from the planning and preparation stage. Get the storyboard right, and the writing follows.
I’m constantly struck by the creativity, innovation and passion in the people I meet and work with. My mission is to help people boost their business communication skills, so that they achieve the full potential of their ideas for themselves, their businesses and the world we all share.
